The Athens County Foundation (ACF), in partnership with Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service, has released the Housing in Athens County 2024 Report, offering critical insights into Athens County’s housing challenges.

The report reveals a significant shortage of affordable housing, particularly for low-income residents, with only 3.5 affordable units available for every 10 extremely low-income households. Additionally, rental and home prices have risen sharply since 2018, limiting options for many families. Despite these challenges, the report highlights promising developments, including new affordable housing projects and increased collaboration among local organizations to address the crisis.

This report is part of the ACF’s ongoing Data Brief Series, which provides in-depth reports on pressing issues that matter to our community. Through this series, ACF aims to be a valuable resource for local nonprofits, community leaders, and collaborative efforts working to address longstanding challenges and pursue new opportunities. By equipping organizations with data-driven insights, we hope to support informed decision-making and strengthen collective action toward a thriving Athens County.
